The
History of the 131st in Vietnam
April
12th 1968 - The 131st Combat Engineers of the Vermont National Guard
were called into service in Vietnam. A total of 184 men were mobilized
to build 60 miles of road between Ban Me Thuot and Ninh Hoa (near the
Cambodian border). Many Vermonters served in Vietnam, but they was the
only Vermont National Guard Unit to serve in Vietnam.
May
13th 1968 - Members of the 131st report for active duty
May
18th 1968 - The 131st departs for training at Ft Belvior, Virginia
Sep
19th 1968 - The 131st departs for Tuy Hoa, Vietnam (approx. 75 miles
north of Saigon) and is attached to the 577th Engineer Battalion.
Oct
1968 - The
131st moves to Ban Me Thout where it remains throughout it's tour of
duty
Sep
8th 1969 - The
131st leaves for Ft Devens, MA
Sep
12 1968 - Members
of te 131st are released from active duty
